Emma is a valued member of the Oho team who is not only doing amazing things as our Marketing and Office Coordinator but who is also pursuing a degree in Marketing. She shares her story, below.
Hi Emma! Thanks for chatting with us today. When did your Oho career begin?
I started working at Oho back in 2017 as an Office Administrator. My three-year anniversary is coming up in March.
Did you always want to work in marketing?
No, not really. I was always interested in working with social media and creating digital content, but I wasn’t too familiar with marketing as a field. As my role progressed, I started taking on more responsibilities, including managing social platforms, working on developing the Oho website, creating internal and external artwork, etc. I quickly realised this was something I really enjoyed!
What part did Oho play in helping you choose your career path?
Oho helped me out massively in choosing my career path. Especially Karen, our Operations Director. She has been so supportive. Helping me to progress within the business – as I moved from Office Administrator up to Marketing Coordinator. She also gives me creative targets and new responsibilities every quarter, allowing me to grow and learn new things on a monthly basis. I have had the opportunity to attend industry events and take online courses. If there is something new I want to learn which I feel can benefit the company, Karen always listens and provides good advice.
How has Oho supported your decision to head back to university?
At first, I had very mixed feelings about applying to university. I was excited to start a new chapter in my life, but at the same time, I didn’t want to give up on a job that is still teaching me so much. This is a role that has allowed me to take initiative and be creative in what I do. I also was reluctant to leave our little Oho tribe! Luckily, Karen immediately reassured me and said they would be happy to work out a solution that allowed me to work part-time.
How do you balance your career, university studies, and social life?
I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy at first! At the beginning, I was working 18 hours per week but still trying to look after all the things I had been responsible for previously – I didn’t want to let anyone down. This just wasn’t possible and was a bit of a learning curve. I feel very grateful to my managers for being so understanding, letting me amend my working hours, and giving me extra time off when I need it. My colleague Becky has also helped me out massively, taking over a lot of things on my weekly tick list and always asking if there is anything she can do to support me. She’s a star!
